TOM GRANT - Ski athlete
Born in the USA, raised in the south of England, over the last decade Tom has become one of the world’s leading extreme skiers with many first descents around the globe to his name. Tom was introduced to skiing, age 13, on a school ski trip and soon made up for the inauspicious start after moving to the Alps in his early 20s. It was in the extreme sports capital of Chamonix that his fascination with vertiginous snowy faces led him to ski many lines that are normally considered climbing routes by combining mountaineering with freeride skiing. As an international mountain guide, Tom is passionate about passing on skills and knowledge to his clients and specializes in coaching steep skiing.
Beyond the Alps, Tom has skied highly technical descents in Canada, Alaska, Baffin Island, Norway and New Zealand, culminating in the first descent of the colossal Caroline Face of Mt. Cook, considered to be one of the world’s greatest unskied lines.
As well as recounting entertaining, inspiring adventures and his personal journey, Tom explores the psychology, risk assessment skills and mindset that have allowed him to take on these challenges. From harnessing flow states, building personal resilience and working as a team in extremely dangerous environments, Tom is open and thoughtful about what he has learned in the mountains.
