Endurance athlete Mark Beaumont, has completed the first major challenge on his 15,000 mile trip through the American Cordillera - reaching the 20,320 foot summit of Mt McKinley (Denail) in Alaska.
Not an experienced climber, Mark was nevertheless keen to take up the challenge of cycling and climbing on his latest challenge to journey through the longest mountain range on the planet. Under the expert guidance of mountain guide Jim Kerr, Mark managed to reach the summit in just under 3 weeks.
Simon Yates is well known for pioneering new routes all over the world. Last month, he and fellow mountaineer Paul Schweizer travelled to the remote St Elias Range on the Alaska-Yukon border to attempt a new route on the vast snowy mountain of Mt Vancouver, the eighth highest peak in Canada.
The pair flew from Haines, Alaska to a glacial cirque only 30 minutes walk from the base of the route. From here they set out on their goal - to make the first ascent of the huge South West Spur of Good Neighbor Peak (4,850m).
After 4 days climbing and 3 nights spent on the wall, Major Phil Packer has finally reached the top of the 3000 ft El Capitan in Yosemite. Exhausted, aching but exhilarated, the team, led by Andy Kirkpatrick, finally reached the top at the end of their fourth day on the gigantic rock formation.
On 29th May, record-breaking cyclist Mark Beaumont set out on his second epic journey, a 15 000 mile cycle and climb down the longest mountain range on the planet.
Last year, Mark broke one of the last great circumnavigation World Records when he cycled around the world in just 194 days and 17 hours. Cycling at a speed of 100 miles a day for over half a year, this was a tremendous achievement which established Mark as one of the top endurance athletes in the UK.
This June, world-class mountaineers Andy Kirkpatrick and Ian Parnell will be traveling to Yosemite with Major Phil Packer, helping him on his quest to climb the mighty El Capitan in order to raise money for the charity Help for Heroes.
Karen and Andy's epic kayaking expedition earlier this year was a tremendous feat of endurance and determination. Paddling 40 km per day through icy sea water, Andy and Karen faced tidal races, island narrows and fearsome white water rapids as they attempted to kayak to the San Rafael Glacier in one of the most remote and least visited areas of Patagonia.
