BIOGRAPHY
Alastair Humphreys is a dynamic adventurer who is always looking for new ways to explore our world. At just 24 years old, Alastair decided to leave England to cycle round the world, a journey which would take him through 60 countries, across 5 continents and take 4 years to complete. Totally self-funded, his 46,000 mile journey was heralded by Sir Ranulph Fiennes as “the first great adventure of the new Millennium”.
Unlike many modern expeditions, Alastair did not have a support team for his round-the-world cycle, but just himself, his bike and a few maps. Riding from England to South Africa, Alastair crossed the Atlantic by yacht, cycled from Patagonia to Alaska, crossed the Pacific by freighter, finally completing his expedition by cycling back to England from eastern Siberia.
Since returning from his global trip, Alastair has continued to find new ways to challenge himself. He has competed in the Marathon des Sables, a six day Endurance race across the Sahara desert, rowed across the English Channel with Phil Packer to raise funds for injured servicemen, walked coast to coast across India and walked an entire lap of the M25 in the coldest British winter in 30 years! Earlier this year he spent 6 weeks with the Catlin Arctic Survey working as a photographer and videographer to monitor the effects of ocean acidification. He is currently crossing Iceland by foot and inflatable pack raft, carrying all his equipment and food for a month on his back.
MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKING
Alastair’s four year journey around the world is an amazing story of self-motivation, effective goal setting and achievement. As Alastair explains, his journey demonstrated “the rewards of risk, the power of communication and trust, the magnificence of our world, and a call to arms that nothing is achieved without being bold enough to begin it.”
Alastair’s continuing quest for adventure is utterly compelling. He has given motivational presentations to clients all over the world, motivating delegates with his infectious enthusiasm for life. A teaching graduate, he also regularly visits schools encouraging children to learn about challenge, risk, geography, citizenship, history, cultural awareness, moral and social issues and much more without feeling as though they are ‘learning’.

“We took a ‘gamble’ in suspending timetables to bring a truly amazing achievement to the attention of our learners – this was repaid massively. All gained masses of knowledge and an understanding about what can be achieved, if you dare to live your dreams.” Rivington and Blackrod High School
